Bad news no gmail for blackberry………..

While existing users who already have the application in their phones will be able to access, but Google will put an end to updates and also block the downloads link.
The move is being touted as Google’s strategy to make the world move on to the Android platform, which could be a final nail in the Blackberry coffin.

However if you are a BlackBerry handsetuser and already have the Gmail for BlackBerry app installed on your device then you will still be able to continue using the application whilst those that do not have the app installed are advised to use their Gmail inbox through the web interface.

The Google guys say, “Beginning November 22, 2011, we will end support for the Gmail App for Blackberry (installed native app). Over this past year, we’ve focused efforts on building a great Gmail experience in the mobile browser and will continue investing in this area.”

As for any other BlackBerry clients that use Google services, currently there is no word on whether any will go the same way of Gmail for BlackBerry.

  1. Ooo.. sucks for BlackBerry. It was probably a good move for google though. It will drive the BB users to the large selection of android phones, unless they just hate touch screen. Though, eventually BB will get left in the dust while android and the iPhone make way for new possibilities for smart phone usage.

  2. Oh thats a sad news for blackberry users. Every one use gmail as their primary email so its a disappointing news.
